Patient rights
Medical confidentiality and professional secrecy
All consultations, records and personal data are subject to medical confidentiality and professional secrecy. Without the explicit consent of those involved, no information may be disclosed to third parties or exchanged.
This consent is obtained in advance by means of a signed release from professional secrecy and may be withdrawn at any time without justification. From the age of twelve, children sign together with a parent.
Information is passed on within the family only with the explicit knowledge and consent of those involved.
Right to information and self-determination («informed consent»)
Those involved are informed about all findings, procedures and therapeutic content. Every step is taken solely on the basis of informed consent.
Those with parental responsibility and the parents of minors are involved in the therapeutic process, are kept informed and participate in decisions.
From the age of twelve, children hold extended rights of self-determination.
Exceptions and borderline situations
There are situations in which children or adolescents are in considerable distress and seek an initial conversation without the knowledge of their legal guardians. Such a first contact can serve to clarify the situation and the concern and to provide an initial response. On this basis, initial supportive measures can be arranged by mutual agreement.
Children or adolescents sometimes disclose matters to their therapist that fall under therapeutic confidentiality and of which their parents are unaware. Where such matters endanger their own safety or that of others, the therapist is obliged to inform the parents, together with the children or adolescents concerned.
